Endangered Species

Endangered Species  is another issue in our environment. An animal can get on the endangered species list when there is so many of one species left.  This happens when there are more species dying off than being born. The number one cause of endangerment is habitat loss. In the rainforest, there are trees being cut down every day. By 2050, we could be losing the rainforests forever. In Australia, the koala's habitat is right where the humans live. The koalas get killed by the humans who hit them with their cars. Recently, though, doctors are taking care of these koalas who survived this dread and raising them in captivity. The koalas are raised in captivity until they are ready to go back into the wild.

Pollution is also a cause to endangerment. Many seabirds are endangered because they swallow the plastic garbage and die because they ate the garbage. Fish are also dying because the water is polluted. Due to the BP oil spill in 2010, these numbers have increased. Hunting is also a factor to endangerment and eventual extinction.  The Carolina parakeet was killed in the early 1950's because of hunting. Other species that were killed because of hunting were the quagga and the passenger pigeon.  There are more species that are going to be killed because of hunting. Those number will increase in the next twenty years. We are protecting these species, but that's not enough. We need to do more to help these species.
